October 2008 Competition Results

The judge for the first monthly competition of the season was Dave Russell. He gave a very thorough critique of each and every image and highlighted the importance of making sure monochrome images had some sparkle about them and did not have too large an area of grey. Some monochrome images he felt were also too tightly cropped. In the colour print section of the competition he stressed the need for a centre of interest in the image, as well as ensuring that there were no distracting items. Some images had burnt out areas in them which should be avoided at all costs. The competition had a new Projected Image section for the very first time and the recently purchased digital projector had its first airing. This section has replaced slides although for this season slides may be submitted and then converted into PIs.
The results of the competition were:
Club chairwoman Barbra Archdale-Smith thanked Dave Russell for his careful and considered judging of the many images. In order to facilitate the Projected Image section of future monthly club competitions members were given individual memory sticks on which to put future entries. This will significantly speed up the preparation of the final disc each month for the new digital projector. Next week's meeting on the 7th November is a social evening at which members are invited to bring along their camera and favourite images and tell other members about them.
Full details of the club's programme and venue are at the club website www.barrycameraclub.org.uk. Potential members are invited to attend free for 2 or 3 weeks before they make up their minds. All levels of photographic skill are welcomed by the club and help and advice is freely available from club members.
