by Hugh Winnan

Barry Camera Club participated in two inter-club battles in one week. First was with Cardiff Camera Club on Thursday 27th November at Cardiff when Brian Sewell ARPS AWPF was the judge. Each club submitted 10 prints and 10 projected images and marks were out of 20 for each image so that a maximum of 400 points were available to each club.In the print section Cardiff scored 168 against Barry's 160 points. This section was marked by some superb wildlife images from the Cardiff club. In the projected images section Cardiff scored 173 to Barry's 166, again many of Cardiff's images being wildlife. The final score therefore was 341 for Cardiff versus 326 for Barry. Vice Chairman Brian Trego thanked Cardiff Camera Club for a well deserved victory and for the hospitality and friendship extended by the "old rivals".

The regular Friday evening slot at Barry Camera Club was also a battle , this time a three way one with Merthyr and Rhiwbina clubs. The judge for this event was Les Loosemore ARPS AWPF and representatives from both visiting clubs boosted the numbers attending to around 45. In the Projected Image section the scores were 127, 135 and 132 respectively. Overall scores were therefore !st Merthyr with 274 points, 2nd Barry with 264 and third Rhiwbina with 261. Club chairwoman Barbra Archdale-Smith thanked Les Loosemore for his helpful and considered comments throughout and said she agreed with the vast majority of them. Next week's meeting is entitled "Jazz and Studio Photography" and the guest speaker is Tim Dickeson. Members are reminded that their entries for the December monthly competition will be required at this meeting. The judge for this is Brian Sewell ARPS AWPF.
