One of John's excellent images

Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, John Gray, paid a visit to Barry Camera Club on September 11th to show the gathered members a selection of images created during his long career in photography.

Ranging from early monotone prints made from traditional film negatives to full colour images created using the latest computer technology, the pictures vividly illustrated why John has garnered so many photographic distinctions over the years.

Many, if not most of the images had been manipulated in some respect, even those taken before computers and digital cameras made it easy to change images around. John explained how he used things like textured glass and plastic to give an artistic edge to his images long before Photoshop gave the photographer a range of tools to do this kind of thing easily on the computer.

Amongst all the pictures made up from elements taken in different parts of the world there was the occasional ‘straight’ picture and these demonstrated John’s mastery of the basic skills of the photographer in capturing an uncomplicated but striking image.
