Barry Camera Club holds "3 on a Theme" Competition
Report by Hugh Winnan
The first club competition of the new season was held on Friday 26th September when the annual "3 on a theme" print and slide competition was held at the club . This is the only competition in the club calendar for which cash prizes are awarded instead of a monthly shield or annual cup or shield.
The judge for the evening was Gary Green ARPS, AWPF, DPAGB who gave a very thorough commentary on each and every entry. In the print section he stressed that getting the tonality of each of the three prints to be similar was very important as is the overall presentation whether on three separate boards or on just one board. He also pointed out that it is essential that the three prints are more than just 3 shots from different angles of the same thing and that there should be some thought given to the cohesion of the images. He commented that the overall standard of the many entries was good. The results for the print section were:
1st "Laura" by Curtis Fowler,
2nd "Fungi" by Neil Latham,
3rd "Beach Pursuits" by Barbra Archdale-Smith.
In the slide section of the competition also the general standard was good with fewer examples of differing tonality. The results were:
1st "Beach People" by Hugh Winnan,
2nd "Inlets" by Brian Trego,
3rd "Mountain Torrents" by John Edwards.

The winners of both sections were awarded a £20 cash prize by chairwoman Barbra Archdale-Smith who also thanked Gary Green for his most perceptive and helpful comments .
Next week's meeting is a visit to Davies Colour Laboratories in Cardiff where members are invited to turn up at 7.30pm. Details of future meetings are shown on the club website at www.barrycameraclub.org.uk and potential new members are most welcome to attend free for 2 or 3 meetings while they make up their minds about joining.
