Barry Camera Club Battles Old Rival Cardiff
By Steve Durbin. Meeting report 23 Oct 2009
Barry and Cardiff Camera Clubs met on Friday 23rd October for their annual "battle"; a contest between the two clubs with a fixed number of images each. Both clubs have been established for over a hundred years, and such battles consequently have a long history.
Judge Leigh Woolford, AWPF, commented that it was one of the best sets of images he had ever seen in an inter-club battle and this was reflected in the high scoring. A total of seven images out of the forty shown scored the maximum number of points - Leigh commented that in other competitions, many of the other images would have scored similarly, but stacked against such quality competition distinctions had to be made.
The first half of the battle consisted of printed images and left Cardiff with a narrow lead of three points. Fortified by an excellent buffet supplied by Barry members, the second half, projected images, was neck-and-neck almost to the end, with Barry finally finishing three points ahead - making the overall score a draw.
Next year Cardiff meet Barry on their home turf, and both clubs hope this will be as exciting a meeting as this one!
Barry Camera Club meets every Friday at 7:30PM at the St. Francis Millennium Centre, Porth-Y-Castell, Barry. Prospective members are invited to come along and see meet us for a small fee at the door of £1.50. The full programme is on our website at http://www.barrycameraclub.org.uk.
